About Tatong Market

Located in the tranquil grounds of the Tatong Tavern Hotel, the Tatong Village monthly market is a great place to buy direct from local farmers, growers and makers.

Enjoy a hearty breakfast and coffee and then browse the stalls where you will find everything from free-range beef to birch trees and home-cooked biscuits.

There's even a "kid's corner" where children can draw and explore while enjoying a lime spider or chocolate crackle.

The Tatong Village Market provides an ideal country setting for eating, shopping and snacking. What a great start to a weekend of local produce, a visit to the alps or sitting in front of the open fires in the hotel.

Mr.Edward (Ted) Brown, for Mr. William Worrall built the original weatherboard hotel in the 1880's. This building was destroyed by fire in 1923.

The present Tatong Pub building was erected for Mr. M. C. Clarke. The contractor was Mr. Alex Wallace with Tom McCauley and Ernie Crowe helping with the construction.

In 1982/83 an attempt to establish a nursery in the grounds of the pub resulted in a building being added for use as an office/display area, as well as the placement of an ex V.R. Guards van, for storage. However this venture did not succeed and all signs of it, other than the building that is now used as accommodation has been removed. It is in these grounds today that on the first saturday of each month Tatong Village Market takes place.

Ned Kelly roamed this region and the famous Kelly Tree located at Stringybark Creek is a short drive away.
